Circuit breaker
A circuit breaker is an automatic electrical switch that prevents a short circuit or an overload from occurring. It can be reset either manually or automatically, depending on the type used. They are rated by the amount of current they are able to allow and also the maximum short – circuit current they are allow to interject with. When a short- circuit current is intercepted an ‘arc’ must be created in order to dissipate that energy. The arc needs to be cooled so the gap can withstand the voltage in the circuit.
